Spring Forward
By DGK Bryan B. Bandong

Just when I'm starting to enjoy the longer days at the right cosmic time with the advent of spring, man steps in with his feeble attempt to control nature! And so on April 2, daylight savings time commands us to anthropogenically move the time an hour ahead - spring forward as we are reminded mnemonically! That translates to an hour of sleep lost on that fateful Sunday. But for practical purposes, let 's all synchronize our clocks so we do not show up an hour late for the Donut Socials on April 9 (Sunday Masses), the Council Business Meeting on April 13 (8 p.m., Church Hall), and the Easter Food Basket (April 16, Church Hall, 2 pm). I hope many of you have committed a fraction of your time for these events.

Spring takes us also into the last quarter of the Columbian Year 1999-2000. A few of the remaining major events are the Parish Picnic on May 21, the Family Friendship Day on June 10, and the all-popular Progressive Dinner on June 24, which closes the Columbian Year with brother knights and spouses sharing dinner at various homes of Council members. A major task for the last quarter would be lining up our next set of officers and event directors. I made my first public call for volunteers in my article in March's newsletter. I would say that the response is quite encouraging since I've gotten calls from brother knights offering their services. The line up is in no way filled in, yet. I'll be making personal calls early in April for potential officers and directors. The roles and responsibilities of the various offices are spelled out in last month's newsletter, which could also be found in our Council's web site at
http://www.kofc6043.org under "Newsletter". Contact me at 426-7832 or via email at bandong@home.com if you have questions. You may also contact any member of the Nominating Committee: Rob Csongor, PGK Frank Costa , PGK Rich Garcia, and PGK Lou Santero.

At the March Business Meeting, we initiated 4 new members into our Council. Please join me in welcoming our new brothers and I'm sure they'd appreciate a friendly phone call from any of us: Mark Ambrose (461-2448), Dennis Bachtel (462-3604), Joe Balestreri (484-5368), and Travis Finch (462-4008). We also got introduced to 2 new transfers into our Council: Gene Dove (462-7145, moved from San Antonio, TX) and Dick Riordan (846-9110, transferred from Concord, CA). Once again, our first degree team of PGK George Leja, PGK Bill Morrison, PGK Lou Santero, PGK Dave Melander and Bro. Frank Santos performed a superb job in administering the exemplification.

May we find new meanings and hope in our lives during this Lenten season. Let us join his Holiness Pope John Paul II in his crusade for reconciliation and pardon through repentance of past errors, inconsistencies and slowness to act.
