CY 2000-2001 Offices Filling Up!
MORE DIRECTORS NEEDED!
By DGK Bryan B. Bandong

I am pleased to announce that the nominations for officers and program directors for Columbian Year 2000 - 2001 are going quite well. In no way is the nomination process closed, and the slate of officers is not final until our election proceedings which will be held on the last business meeting of the present Columbian year on June 8 at St. Augustine Church Hall. Let me present before you, however, the following brother knights who have been nominated and expressed their enthusiasm in holding office when elected.

Grand Knight: Bryan Bandong Deputy Grand Knight: Rob Csongor
Chaplain: Rev. Fr. Tony Herrera Chancellor: Lance Ruckteschler
Warden: Mike Machi, Jr. Inside Guard: John Rabada
Outside Guard: Jose Perez Financial Secretary: Greg Jones
Treasurer: Paul Hill Recorder: Hal Wilson
Advocate: PGK Mike Machi, Sr. 1st Year Trustee: soon-to-be-PGK Ron Silva
2nd Year Trustee: PGK Frank Costa 3rd Year Trustee: PGK Rich Garcia

Greg Jones will be serving his second year of a 3-year term Finance Secretary post. He has done a marvelous job in his first year stint. Returning in their offices and bringing the practical experiences they've gained are Bro. Paul Hill for his third year in a row as Council Treasurer, Bro. John Rabada for his second year as Inside Guard, and Bro. Hal Wilson for his second year as Council Recorder. Hal has done a superb job in getting our meeting minutes in great order.

Similarly for the non-elected offices, the following have signified their intentions and willingness to serve in the following capacity:

Newsletter Editor: Bob Sinz
Council Director: PGK Chuck Berardi
Youth Director: B. J. Farrell

I have been in contact with several brother knights for the posts of Church Director, Family Director, and Community Director. I am awaiting confirmation from these brother knights and I have no doubt that they will step forward to hold these leadership challenges in the service of our church, community and council. It would be of great convenience if we would have a full slate of officers and directors for the coming CY to serve better the two churches in our Catholic Community of Pleasanton . I would like to express my extreme appreciation to Bro. Bob Sinz for offering to continue to be our Newsletter Editor. This would be his third year in a row of service to our council in this capacity.

Shifting gears now, I would like to solicit help from every brother knight in regards to some significant events for the month of May. On Sunday, May 7, after the 12:15 pm mass, our Church will be holding a barbecue cook off in celebration of the Neighborhood Christian Community (NCC) program. The Knights of Columbus have been approached to manage the BBQ, and our Council, at the April Business Meeting, has also voted to donate $1000.00 towards the purchase of food for this event. The number of parishioners that will be attending this celebration is estimated to be in excess of 600. We can use every help we can get. Bro. Mike Machi, Jr. (455-8070) has volunteered to be our Council chairman for this event.

The annual Parish/Deanery Picnic will be on May 21, Sunday, at the Alameda County Fairground . Traditionally our Council has served hamburgers and hotdogs, so we will need volunteers for cooking the hamburgers and preparing the garnishing that go with these. We also typically have a team of knights and/or their spouses at the cashier section as well as to take orders from customers as they line up to get their food . We form two shifts, the first shift, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., takes care of bringing our items to the venue, setting up, and cooking. The second shift, from noon to 3 p.m., carries over from the first shift and handles the clean up. I am coordinating our Council's task for this event, unfortunately I will be at the K of C State Convention on that same weekend. I will line up the teams and purchase all the materials needed for this event, however I would appreciate it if someone can manage the activity on the day itself. Please contact me at 426-7832 or bandong@home.com.

Finally, as I had mentioned above, May 19-21 will be the K of C State Convention, which will be held at Sacramento Hyatt Regency. Our Council's delegates are yours truly and Financial Secretary Greg Jones. Everyone is welcomed to attend this wonderful gathering of Councils all over the state of California. Come on along... Sacramento is only an hour-and-half away!
