Grand Knight's Message
My Dear Brother Knights,
The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary. The Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated on October 7. As prayer is so vital to our faith and to our Order, I invite you to read about seven Knights who demonstrate how vital the Rosary is to your prayer life.
It is indeed important that we take time to pray. For of all the works that we do as a council, the direction and success of our efforts are guided by prayer. We seek the Lord’s guidance in all of our works, in the hope that the fruit born of our efforts can bring succor to those in need or distress.
For the benefit of newer Knights, the Order was originally formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance were offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship was promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.
We now provide financial aid by promoting our life insurance and other insurance products to members. Not only does this offer security to families in the event of the loss of a wage earner, but as the Knights are non-profit, we can redirect premium dollars to charitable work throughout the world. As councils, we focus on four core values: Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. Each of these values is represented in the first, second, third and fourth degrees. We carry out these values in many ways such as fundraising (practicing Unity and Fraternity) and give the funds earned to local non-profit organizations in our church and greater community (practicing Charity) and supporting and honoring our veterans, living and dead, as citizens of our great country (Patriotism).
I am so often writing about our need to get our members more involved in our works. This time I would like you to pray- pray for your family, your parish and your council. Pray that you can honor your faith in yourself, your family, your faith community and your council. And of course, when the opportunity arises, please join us in the efforts to make our council a valued and replied upon resource to our pastor and parish.
