Grand Knight's Message
My Dear Brother Knights,
As we strive to build back what we have lost in social adhesion, both as a council and a nation, we are again challenged to adapt to circumstances around this incessant COVID19 pandemic.
The Diocese of Oakland has put in place new guidelines for gatherings aside from Mass or Faith Formation. These rules center around social events involving serving food or beverages.
"If any aspect of a festival or event is held indoors and food or drinks are served, all persons must present vaccination cards or proof of a negative COVID test administered in the previous 72 hours before entering the building. All attendees must wear masks while in the building, except when eating or drinking. If an indoor event with food or drinks involves pre-registration, then all persons registering as attendees must provide proof of vaccination when registering or proof of a negative COVID test taken in the last 72 hours from the day of the event. Parishes and schools must include this proof of vaccination requirement or negative COVID test in promotional announcements as well as on the parish or school website. Food for festivals and events (whether for sale or not) must be prepared by either an outside food service vendor or prepared at the church or school on the day/night of the event. During the COVID pandemic, no potluck or home-prepared food or drinks will be permitted at parish or school festivals or events. Any home-prepared food shall not be consumed on church or school property at festivals or events. There are no exceptions."
This will strongly impact both in-person Officer and Membership Meetings, and events we hold. We can certainly hold our meetings in person, but will not be able to serve dinner or beverages. But we will need to keep masked while we meet. As much as I would like to gather in person, I am still discerning if enough of our Brothers are ready for this or not.
Our September Officer’s Meeting will again be online. Plan to join us at the Officers Meeting (1st Thursday of the month, 7:00 pm). See the notice later in this newsletter for information on how to join our Zoom meeting. Look for messages soon about how we will hold our Membership Meet
I am very proud to be associated with the men, the Knights of this Council. We continue to have a spirit and determination to see through difficult times and still find ways to serve our pastor, parish and community. I know that we can still move forward with some of our events, with modifications, and postpone or drop others as needed. Please continue to step forward with ideas and insight, and of course you time and talent in the work needed to be done.
