I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year! Many got together with family close and far, some for the first time in a couple of years, I’m sure, in this COVID19 dominated world. But surely we give thanks to our Lord for the continued blessings in our lives.
So what will our New Year offer? What can we as Knights of Columbus do to make it better for more people? While many focus on the social and political aspects of this pandemic, we should rather spend our time listening to our Lord in prayer and looking to build our relationships, support our family, friends and even those we do not know; not to judge or criticize, but to encourage, build up and support them.
Look for opportunities to serve. Our church needs help with ministers for our liturgies. Even those who choose not to be at Mass in person can still serve, perhaps by washing the alter linens or some other behind-the-scenes efforts. There are many community organizations now gearing up to serve the underserved in our community, and we can help make a big difference in many peoples’ lives.
We are now half way through our Columbian Year 2021-2022. My how the time has flown! In January and February we look forward to many events; of significance is our largest fundraiser of the year, our 53rd Annual Crab Feed. It will be modified this year, but we look forward to your participation in ordering food and in helping us serve the parish.
Lastly and again, let us recognize that many are hurting, and that hurt can be greater through the holidays and beyond, as memories of loved ones passed, or those in dire health problems now, weigh heavy on their minds. Just in our Council we lost three Brothers in the past 2 months: SK Joe Jones, SK Paul Reyes and Brother Kevin Ryan. Pray for them and their families, and reach out to help, comfort or just be present to them.
Vivat Jesus! GK Michael Schibler
